OCX Offroad park, Irvine, CA

Ahh. Totally worth exploring. I am going to hit the ranger station up for a key. I was up there in the truck when I broke her the last time and have to revisit the site of her demise. there is a great articulating climb near Saddleback Peak. I tore the rear 10b diff off the axle tubes trying to climb it. Goto go back.

I have two freinds of mine that where killed rolling off the top of Saddleback Mountain back in 1987. They where about 300 Feet from the top during a bad rainstorm, and where blown right off the side of the mountain. A 100 + MPH wind-shear blew them right off the side of the mountain. They rolled about 2000 Feet (thats right...2000 Feet) down the side if the mountain. All that was left of the truck when it hit bottom was the the cab firewall, engine, and transmission.

There are a few Narrow areas up there and the trails get really slick in the rain. My wifes old Boss ran off the side of the trail up there a few years back. the truck is still there but they were drinking I think. they both made it out alive.

Wow, Never heard of any bad accidents up there. Then again....I have obly been in SoCal for a few months. I guess I should plan on a day trip to Wildomar so I can get a good feel for the area.

Is saddelback the name of the big hill?

Saddleback Mountain can be a dangerous place. During the 17 (or so) years (1975 to 1992) I lived in Mission Viejo, ther where more than two dozen deaths up there. A lot of truck carcasses litter the side of that mountain, which tell the tale of many lives lost. In fact a friend of mine, who has lived in Mission Veijo all his life (44 years), had a young teenage girl die in his arms less than a year ago up there, when a dumb ass teenage driver, decided to show off up there on Saddleback Mountain. I have talked to several local (Silverado Canyon) Firemen and Forest Rangers, about Saddleback Mountain, and if it where up to them, they would lock the gates and leave them closed because they are tired of hauling so many dead dumb asses off that mountain.

saddleBack the the mountain between you and us. Off Ortega you would head the opposite direction from Wildomar towards Blue Jay camp ground. the road goes all the way across to Corona. There are a few really cool side trails up there I would love to challenge. We can get the key with permission from the orange county City Offices I think. I will have to check into that cuz that was a few years ago. I know almost all the trails up there and have driven them a bunch. Accidents can happen anywhere. it is not Bad yo there. mainly fire roads. I used to take my Buick up there.
