well as i was leaving my house today i saw a gas container in the middle of my driveway, i was in a hurry so i moved it in front of the garage. the container is full and smells like gas but i dont want to use it unless im sure, its a 10 gallon container btw, anybody have any ideas of how to test it?
 
Set it on fire and see if it burns:eek1: I really dont know,maybe put it in the mower or something?
 
thats kinda what i was thinking but i also dont want to mess up my mower
 
Hear any sirens last night? Or notice anyone laying in the grass nearby?
At the price gas is, it would be an expensive prank. I figure someone ran out, and was walking back with a can and passed out or died.

As for testing it, I don't know of a cost effective way.
Most engine harmful things you can put in are soluble in water.
Like sugar.
You could pour about a gallon into a 5 gallon tank and add about 2 gallons of water.
Mix well and decant off the gas.
If there is any sugar in it, it should be in the water.

Keep doing that with fresh water until you have washed all the gas.
Then use it in your lawn mower or something not too expensive.
 
just smell it, if it don't smell like the gas at the pump don't use it. Gas deteriorates quickly nowadays, well after a few seasons anyway.
 
i always have sirens around my house
for all i know it could be my own gas someone was trying to steal hahaha
i guess into the mower it goes
 
You found a 10 gallon container of what seems like gas and you're concerned about how to use it?
Aren't you a little concerned about why it was there?

This is the first thing that came to mind. Are you about 10 gallons shy in any of your vehicles? Around here 10 gallons of gas is $36.00.
 
i had the same thought but my gas gauges are all the same, i still have no idea what it is and its kinda bugging me

My first thought exactly. Who cares if the gas is good or not, but why was it there. I wouldve called the cops, could be a gas thief or arsonist running around
 
A few possibilities :

!. Someone stole some gas,got nervous,dumped it and ran!..
2. It fell out of a landscapers truck or something..
3. Someones molitov cocktail didn't stay lit!
4..Someone was hoping you'd dump it in your truck,and watch the fun when it dies on you,and you spend hours and $$$$ fixing it--got any disgruntled neighbors??..
5..God wanted you to have 10 free gallons of gas!...
 
I would be concerned with "underground boxing clubs" trying to cause mayhem in your neighborhood. But I'm not supposed to talk about it...
 
As I was driving through Merced yesterday my spare 10 gallon gas tank fell off my rig. Has anybody seen it?:haha:
When i worked at a gas station there was a dip test we used to check the quality of the gas.

I don't think I would use it in my rig. I would use it for fire starting fluid, and make 1 gallon gasoline bombs.:saweet::weld::weapon11::saweet:
 
Couple yrs ago, I came across a 5 gallon can rolling down the road in front of me. One of the metal non-venting round diesel cans. Stopped, walked up to it, full.....cha-ching!. Musta fell off some kind of construction equipment. Still use that can today.

:haha:I think this is the best idea yet.

but in all seriousness I would be very concerned about where it came from. It would suck giving up 10 free gallons of gas but calling the cops may be the best option here.:dunno:
 
well i was messing with it today, its ignites, had some fun burning stumps out of my yard, but i put in one of my old mowers and it didnt run so i guess all i got is a free gas container out of it
