Odometer Reset

My point exactly!
Legal on paper Probably. Legal enough that anyone cares about a 21 year old rode hard put to bed wet beatup old crawling truck? With box on the title checked and signed? Absolutely!
I met the letter of the law, box checked, and signed.

Cant post the link because I'm the FNG, but in a nutshell looks like even if you state "exceeds mechanical limit", you still have to disclose the reading. Thanks all for the input. Wait a minute, I purchased a new (used) cluster and broke it while trying to clean it before install. I'm not sure what the mileage was when it broke, so I guess I'll just have to reset it to something simple...:D

With every state having hundreds of thousands of vehicles i doubt that anyone would ever question your odo reading. Given the age of it to begin with having to replace the guage or it rolling over would not be out of the question. Dont make a big deal about it, dont worry about it.

Back when Nissans had mechanical odometers and they needed to be replaced we would put the new ones in reading 000000. Then we would engrave the current mileage on the door post next to the vin number. That's what the state told us to do.

Rolling the odometer is a FEDERAL crime and can NEVER be done. If the odometer breaks and cannot be repaired or cannot be set back to the mileage before it broke then the disclosure statement must be filled out and signed.

It is also illegal to drive any vehicle with a non functioning odometer. It doesn't matter if the speedo is broken but the odometer MUST be in functioning order.

I think it's a federal crime if you roll the odermeter back and then intentionally sell it to someone with false knowledge of the actual miles. Not a crime other wise.

Does the term "mattress tag" come to mind?
