Anyone ever mess with the trip portion of their odometer? The reset knob pushes in just fine on my 91 K5 however it dosent zero the digets.

Thanks
Tommy D

You do know that you have to push in and turn, correct? Not being condescending, but it's not a very good design. You have to make sure the little teeth on the end of it are actually engaging as you try and turn it. Don't force it, as I recall the teeth are all plastic, I'm sure they will break if you force anything.

If it doesn't work like that, only fix I've had luck with is to take the speedometer out, and being very careful, used 3 in 1 oil on the odometer "barrel" (the numbers) and worked it until it smoothed out.

You know.... funny you should say that. When depressing and turning it feels like your trying to wind a broken watch. So I figured just now (as I had to check the carpet samples before I make my order) lets give it one more try. So I was careful to make sure the lever was bottomed and started turning

and turning

and turning

Low and behold the digits started to move. Like some bad time machine slowly they aligned to 666 (how wonderful) then 555, 444,333,222... you get the drift.

I'm back to zero time!

Ok smart guys so now I ask, what the best way to access the heater control bulb(s). I'm also guessing their 194s?

Thanks!

Tommy D

Bulb is on the back of the heater head, if AC not sure you can get to it without removing a bunch of junk. If no AC, can probably get to it by removing the gauge bezel and accessing it from the cutout just above it. MIGHT be able to get it going in from the glove box, but I think that's a long reach.

It's either a 194 or 168. Not sure that vintage if they were still using separate bulbs, or you need those stupid bulb/socket integrated pieces.

It's a sign...

A bad one :D

Gotta ask, why are you are trying to zero it?....maybe I don't wanna know...

Great nickname! HK owner here too.
Just trying everything out as the K5 is new to me. Figured if the trip OD worked I could check fuel mileage real easy.

Thanks, HK's are like Blazers they are addictive :D

I personally wouldn't try it since I'm not running NJ QQ tags (Regular reg+tags) and need to pass state inspection or I would monkey around with it.

Would be interesting to zero it on a full tank and see what kind of mileage you get, on my '77 with 32 gal tank (gas, 305 engine) and stock tires I can get a little over 300 miles on the highway but far less with stop and go city traffic.
