oem rim?

any tips on tuning a 78 qjet carb?

There are a couple ways to tune a carb; the high-end way which involves wide band oxygen sensors etc (and probably a dyno) and the cheap way of reading plugs and feeling how the truck drives.

Basically, you look at the color of the porcelain on the spark plugs. Light tan is what you're looking for. Brown/black means too rich, white is too lean.

If the truck stumbles when you first hit the gas (part throttle), there is probably something wrong with the accelerator pump.

If the truck stumbles when you stomp on the gas (WOT), the secondaries are opening too fast and you need to tighten the spring that regulates the secondary butterflies.

First things first, make sure that the carb is in good working order (which probably means rebuilding it, pretty cheap and easy).

If you have to make jet/metering rod changes, don't change 5 jet sizes without changing the metering rods. Keep a balance, change the jets and metering rods together.

Make small changes, if you make big changes you'll spend forever chasing down the right combo.

The rim is a Vortec, Turbo, or Hurricane (all veined) depending on manufacturer. You kinda threw me off on the double question though. 38377k5 has the q-jet question covered.

Think there was a rim called a Sundowner also...

Man I have seen a lot of poeple looking for these lately. Are they becoming popular again?

I love them on the 70's trucks. Long story, but I ended up with my K5 because of those wheels. They are the exact wheels posted above, I believe they were dealer installed maybe.

Dealer installed, maybe... but not factory, no.

That's for '78, but other 70's years are similar...

I suspect what the guy means is that they are W.R. Grace OEM, not OEM GM. Perhaps other companies "ripped off" the design and that companies product is more desirable than the clones?

Note that the title of the picture says W. R. Grace Wheel OEM 1978 Blazer.jpg

OEM means original equipment manufacturer, and doesn't mean it was GM. I have an OEM Tuffy console in my truck just means Tuffy made it, not that it was OEM GM.

Granted, I wouldn't have worded it the way he did, but I'm *guessing* that's not how he intended it.

Another option is that it was available outside the US "originally" on the trucks, since the guys stuff is in Arabic (or whatever that writing is).

I'm a big fan of the turbine rims. I have a pair myself. From what I read/ heard they stopped making them because the rims would shatter. It is a cast mag rim. American Racing did come out with a repo looking rim for the charger like in 05 i think. They were selling for $700 bucks i think. I got mine for $10 bucks with some bald tires on them. I think they are cool plus they are the same vintage as my k5 late 70;s

was the spare tire carrier mounted to the frame or body? Id body it seams like this would not be very strong.
