I posted this the lounge also, but there are alot of CK5ers in the garage that don't go in there, so if a mod feels it's out of place, feel free to delete it. I hope to make this thread a build thread if my plan flies.
So I've been working pretty hard on getting my dad to work on the old 81 Jimmy that is rotting away in his backyard since I graduated high school 4 years ago.
He always complains that he don't have anything to really go tooling around the boonies in, as the Suburban has 20's, and mom's PT, well...
I want something to work on, don't have anything but time, dad wants something to wheel, but has no time to make something. So far my efforts have changed his response from "Not right now" to "I'll think about that." The thing is, I'm trying to save up for school, so he balks about that, and I told him I owe him money for the tools I bought for school last year, plus I'd do all the work if he provided part of the funding. All it needs is either a new long block (it has new heads and carb) or (my idea) a FI Vortec motor, an ORD lift, and 33" rubber. At that point it would be all that my dad needs to have years of fun in the backcountry of eastern Washington.
Now here's a clincher, he's just had major surgery on his jaw to open is throat so that he can breathe easy and take stress off his heart. Before, it was really hard for him to do anything because he simply could not breathe well enough to be active. As a result, he put on a lot of weight. With this surgery, he lost alot of weight because he wasn't able to eat solid food for 6 weeks and is still on soft foods. He has gone from 320 pounds to 250 in a little over a month.
Now that he can breathe easy and his heart is less stressed, I want to do this for him so that he can stay active and be around a while longer. I'm launching this plan with you guys at the same time as my family, because I think it would be neat to have a lot involvement in it so that he can be motivated to stay healthy for us.
So... I'm not asking for anything because that's not my style, but any help any of the brotherhood wants to offer will be greatly appreciated.
This is starting to become an obsession for me and will prolly go about it at any rate (I'm kinda reckless like that
)
Thanks brothers!
