I baught the ORD 1 1/4 inch tie rod and tie rod ends. first off the tie rod and ends are beefy and work great... however, I thought the ends were a bit expensive($95 for the pair) but then I was thinking... how do I replace these if I'm in the field??? I'm not going to have internet access and a week to wait for the new parts you know....

Does anyone have a part number (NAPA/Parts America) or know of a suitable replacement for the ORD tie rod ends. I believe they are 7/8 inch fine thread.

Thanks,

Dave

I think they are Super Duty parts. if so you can get them at any Ford dealership or parts store. If you check then before every trail ride I doubt they will fail you. They will get loose before they break.

I am hard on my truck. I grease mine before every trip and check for play. if one of them ever shows any wear I will replace it instantly.

I am using es2010R & es2010L for the draglinks and TR's I am building. They look identical to the ORD ones my friend and I have on our trucks. they are the really short ones.

These are the ones you can get from a parts store to replace the ORD ones if you need a replacement quickly. If you forget the part numbers listed above, they can be looked up as a 92 dodge w350 tie rod end.. inner or outer just depends on if u need the right hand(driver's side) or left hand(passenger side) threads.

For the small price difference, I would get an extra set of the ORD ones.

Why buy them from ORD and get no warranty. Go to the parts store and pick up a set of MOOG ends with a lifetime warranty.

:waytogo: seems like a no brainer to me----ORD has to get them from somewhere.

Why not just call and ask ORD? Explain what you need them for and ask them what to get for replacements or spares. I don't see why it would be an issue, they are not in the business to compete with Carquest and Napa.

They will not tell your what application they are from, they say they are specially made for them.:mad: "cough" Bullsh!t "cough" sorry I think I'm getting sick.:haha:

ORD might not tell but NWF does. The TRE used on their x-over are napa ES2010 L or R depending on what side you need.

Are these used on the crossover draglink, or for the TRE's?

The one's listed above are for the crossover steering but I'm not sure they are differant then those used for the TRE... since both the crossover steering and tie rods are made by ORD I would try it... if it doesn't fit for the TRE's then take em back.... NAPA will take them back if they haven't been installed.

Hope this helps!

They actually TOLD you that they couldn't say?

From their website:
Our steering arm and pitman arm are both tapered for the large GM tie rod ends.

I don't know, they've been plenty helpful to ME. I can't imagine any of the regular phone crew blowing smoke up your ass like that w/a stock and easily sourced part.

EDIT: reading through, it says three things:

1. their arms are tapered for large GM tie rod ends
2. the high steer tierod uses the same ends as the draglink
3. the draglink uses an HD end w/"angle capability similar to a GM draglink end but with the short strong shank of a tie rod end."

One might reasonably deduce that the draglink end must be a GM taper to fit the arm, and is almost definitely a TRE. How many TRE's have GM tapers? And why use something other than a plain old HD TRE?? I don't know that it would make much sense to have "custom-made" TRE's JUST for ORD. They are not that big a company.

plus, this:
ORD High Steer and crossover kits use heavy wall 1020 DOM tubing, strong and durable HD tie rod ends and

Hopefully that exhausts the possiblities LOL
