:wink1: Friday
  • Hey Joe Canyon
  • Area BFE

:D Saturday
  • Hurrah Pass / Chicken Corners
  • Hell's Revenge
  • Cliff Hanger
  • Trifecta (Poison Spider Mesa-Golden Spike-Gold Bar Rim)
  • Pritchett Canyon

 Sunday
  • Tip Toe Behind the Rocks
  • Behind the Rocks

A few things to note.
  1. There must a minimum of 5 vehicles signed up for a trail run or it will be subject to cancellation. We're doing this because all of our trail leaders are volunteers and some of them would like the opportunity to run a different trail if there aren't many people signed up for the run they are leading. You will be notified at the BBQ if a trail run has been canceled. I would recommend having an alternate in mind ahead of time.
  2. The Pritchett Canyon trail run will have strict vehicle requirements and an inspection before the trail run begins (specifics will be available by time of registration)
  3. Registration will be open around the first of July ( I know someone was going to ask :wink1: )

More specifics on the trail runs and descriptions of the trails will be added to the BlazerBash.com website in the next month. In the mean time, TrailDamage.com is a good source of information on the trails as well as Charles Wells' book, Guide to Moab, UT Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails.

Friday at Area BFE will be what I call "open wheelin". That means there won't be any designated trail leaders or trail runs. The basic idea will be a gathering time around 8 or 9 AM at the parking lot. From there people can work out what trail they might want to run and find other people interested in doing the same. If you come in to Moab later in the day, you can come out to Area BFE and see if you can catch up with any of the groups, heck there may be some people just hanging out in the parking area chatting. They have several trails in Area BFE as well as a test area near the parking lot. More info can be found here: http://www.areabfe.com/trails.php I would encourage you to start a thread here in the BB forum if there's a particular trail in Area BFE that you want to run. That way you can get a group basically organized ahead of time.

Running Area BFE like this is an experiment. I think it has the potential to be a fun time. After BB10 is over, we welcome feedback on how you think it works out. Maybe it can become a Blazer Bash tradition.

Friday will still have the BBQ in the City Park - same location as last year.

That's it for now.

Thanks!
Scott

Scott,

Are there any restrictions on last minute informal trail runs not on the list? Im happy with the official runs, but am curious whether registering with the BLM puts any additional restrictions that weren't there in the past.

For example, I've tried Fins twice now and never seem to finish. I might enjoy some bfe time Friday and then a fins run as long as it didn't cause any trouble.

You can do your own thing, that's not an issue. We just have to take care of all the technicalities for the trails we are offering, for example trail leaders, operating plan, insurance, and all that junk.

You could have an issue if you were running the trail with a group consisting of more that 25 people (not trucks, people) and BLM stopped you. They would require that you have a permit. That's the reason we have to do the permit is because we have a group of more than 25 people. But there's nothing that stops you from doing your own thing. A lot of people do their thing for Easter Jeep Safari and it's allowed, they just ask that you don't interfere with the organized trail runs.

The permitting is a pain, although it'll be easier the second time around now that I know the score. However one benefit is that it helps to tell the BLM how many people are using the trails. Otherwise it's hard to prove that there are lots of users when they go to shut down trails. It has happened in other areas of the country.

I guess that was a long-winded answer to your question. :doah: :rotfl:

Thanks for asking. :D

Thanks, that's what I figured. And thanks for organizing all this stuff.

I have a question, I'm trying to plan a trip with my daughter that includes BB 10. So far we'd be there Thurs night around dinner through Sat night...leaving early Sunday. Aiming to see Four corners, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam and Vegas on the return trip home.

I'm looking for "sheetmetal gang" type trails for Friday and Saturday...

Anything geared towards those not looking for an 'E' ticket ride? I see Area BFE on Friday, but I don't recall much in that area that is very sheetmetal friendly.

My rig may or may not be painted by then, but it will be reasonably pretty in the near future and I'd like to keep it that way.

Looks like Area BFE has a few trails that aren't 'hardcore'. Anyone else interested in "Strike ravine"?

Thinking Chicken corners/Hurrah pass on Sat...although Poison Spider Mesa/Golden Spike, Gold Bar would be cool too. I did Gold Bar and part of Golden Spike in '03 and don't recall much that was crazy at the time.

Should be 4" lift, 35" radial MT's, possibly a winch, possibly 4.56's and locked rear by then. No cage, no body armor. 1/2 tons...

I wouldnt mind strike ravine either. I've been on hells revenge already and would enjoy something different.

Well, after my wife and youngest eavesdropped on the trip plans they have decided they are going to join me and my older daughter. I guess my wife figured it was gonna be drive to Moab, wheel and drive home.

Anyways, that means I'll probably make the trip a few days longer and stay for Sunday as well. We spent a while looking at the different trail descriptions, and so far everyone seems cool with the more scenery, less violence aspect. :D

So, Strike Ravine Friday, Chicken corners/Hurrah on Saturday...not sure on Sunday, it appears Tip Toe behind the rocks is about the only sheetmetal friendly run.

I have 2 friends riding with me. Looking for scenery also. I do not like to bend sheet metal either. Of course I did bend both rockers a couple of weeks ago.

Funny, considering I know you are, or at least were, in possesion of a couple of rocker guards.... :p:
