I am taking a 1989 S-10 Blazer and turning it in to a offroad truck. I am going to put a GM inline six in it with the stock drivetrain. What will I need to do to use the four wheel drive. It has a NP231 transfer case in it

How much of the firewall and dash are you planning to cut out to make the inline 6 fit? /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif That's a pretty long engine!

well you are going to have to either have to extend the engine out the front where the radiator is , or you will have to lengthen the front shaft and shorten the rear shaft.
i think the old inline six has the same bolt patten as the
4.3 bellhousing but i could be wrong. if so , you will have to see if there is an adapter to hook the 231 up to the
original tranny. if you pull the tranny from a k5 blazer
with an inline 6 , you could see if a 231 can be clocked
to have a driverside drop. good luck.

I am just going to use the tranny that came out of the S-10 the 700-r4 has the smae bolt pattern as the inline six i am wondering about the front axle how is 4x4 function controalled?

A vacuum switch on top of the transfer case engages the central axle disconnect when the case is shifted into 4WD. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif You can also buy a manual control unit, called a Posi-lock, for around $100.
