Looking into a ORD 2.5" Shackle Flip and running a DIY4X 6" UDSR Shackle in it.

This will net me 4" of lift in the rear, correct?

On ORD's website they recommend not using a 6" shackle with their 4" shackle flip, they recommend using the 4.5" shackle. So 4" + 4.5" = 8.5" all together.

Kert's shackles are beefier and cost $40 less than ORD's super shackle but he doesn't offer a 4.5" one (I'm sure if I called the order in he would have no issues making a pair though).

So 2.5" + 6" = 8.5. Same as the 4" flip and 4.5" shackle...

I've had ORD's 4" flip and 4.5" shackles before on my '76 SWB and they came powdercoated in different colors (flip was a gunmetal grey and the super shackle was black). I've ran the DIY4X flip too on a '79 K5, Didn't like not being able to stick a socket on the top to bolt holes that secure the flip to the frame rails, I did like the captured nuts that were included though.

Lifting just 1 end of the suspension gets tricky because you only gain half of the lift gained. A 2.5" flip is measured with a factory shackle which is 4" I believe. So a 6" shackle only gains 1" of lift. That would make the lift 3.5".

That sucks...

So I would get 3.5" of lift and a steeper shackle angle pretty much?

Yes it would likely be more vertical. Depends on what you are after but technically a vertical shackle is better for ride quality. If you call and talk to Stephen at Offroad Design he can explain it better than me.

I've got a good understanding of what your saying.

I'll call Kert and see if he'll make me a 4.5" shackle and just use the 4" flip.

if it came down to it.. from the pics it looks like you could redrill kerts 6 inch to 4.5 easy

I wonder how much of a difference 56" springs in the rear would make.

from 52's? not much lift wise..but they flex a whole lot better..you could always get a shackle flip with multiple shackle holes if you wanted to go 56's later

I have a 2.5 flip with (iirc) a 6" shackle and 8 leaf 56's, the shackle angle could be worse. :dunno:

That shackle angle looks good to me, from everything I've read over the years you want the shackle angle kicked back a little. I wouldn't want my shackle angleto be vertical.

How much lift would you say that you've netted with that setup in the rear? Did you have to use an EZ Inch to even things out?

6" shackle is normal equipment when using 56s in order to get the proper length and angle that the longer 56s need.

Im assuming the OP is using the flip brackets correctly and with 52" springs. If that is the case, 6" would be too long.

I've got a total of about 7" of lift BUT I'm running a full 1 ton spring pack and a Zero Rate. The big spring pack and ZR's are to even out with the front 52's, only other choice was lift springs but no cut 7 dry answer on the size to buy.

I placed an order for the 4" flip and 6" shackles. We'll see how it works out with the 56's.

If the 56s are in good shape, 7 leaf plus overload, they are level with 4" lift TC springs.

One thing to keep in mind with the shackle flip and a longer shackle is your pinion angle at your drive shaft. Every inch longer on the shackle moves you away from the factory degree location of your axle Pinion angle. This could cause vibration issues and premature wear on u-joints. If soo axle shims or re welding the spring perches will be necessary.
My 2 cents
