Anyone shorten their drag link they purchased from offroad design? I have the 7/8-18 LH tap and I need to shorten the drag link a few inches, does the drag link have to be drilled out or does it have the correct inside diameter(though out the whole tube) for the 7/8 tap? I searched but I could find anything dealing with their drag link.

Thanks,
Pat

do you have the 75-80 doller left hand tap if thats the end your cuttin down ?

might be cheeper to buy new link and sell the one ya got.

friend was going to do this . dont know what he did to finish it if he did . it was a project truck .

Generally the tap will specify what size hole there needs to be. I'm not 100% sure what the guys in the shop do with those but I don't believe they do any machine work on the tube, just tap it.

As for making it shorter, typically we tell people to cut a piece out of the middle and weld it back together.

What, I would think a shorter link with some cut off the end would be stronger than a piece cut in half and re welded

Strength isn't too much of a concern, there is quite a bit of material there and compared to the steering forces involved it's not an issued.

Now, that is assuming that the weld is good (and sleeving the inside is always a good idea for strength and alignment). I wouldn't recommend doing that for someone that isn't a very good welder.
