ok so here is a trivia question, how lont does it take an 08 cummins to blow up after it runs out of oil?

anwser.........1/2 mile

im in kansas working th pipeline as i said in my other post, and the company truck that i share with my boss is a CC 4x4 3500 dodge cummins.

on tuesday he told me we were gonna take the truck to wal-mart to get the oil change (mistake number 1, i told him that was a bad idea)

on wensday we leave pratt, to head to wichita to get parts and im driving, we get about 50 miles out of town and i here, what sounds like an injector tapping. i pull over as the oil gauge fluxuates and i crawl under the truck and there is oil all over the place.

I tell the boss, he says we are 16 miles from wichita, lets limp it there (mistake number 2 i told him it would never make it)

we go less than half a mile and its rattling really bad, i tell him, screw it im pulling over, right when i go to shut the key off and let it coast to a stop i hear BAM!! CLUNK!!! i shut it off and we tow it to the dodge dealer.

20 mins later the tech comes out with the 3 pieces of the cam in his hand, and he says, i reached into the fist size hole in the side of the block and pulled out these pieces. :eek1:

walmart now has a new motor, rental truck and labor charge to take care of.

i took a pic of the hole, its really hard to see and i cant get it to load up but i will keep trying.

truck had 26k on it, not even broke in. :doah:

What'd they do? Not fill it or leave the drain plug out/loose?

ended up figuring out that they had double gasketed the oil filter. it was ok for puttering around town on tuesday but the second we got on the highway and got all heated up it blew the gasket out, and it started leaking all over the place. so as we drove it just kept pumping out.

NIIIIIIICE.

Known a few guys who worked at oil change places and to a man they had nothing but bad stories about most of the folks they worked with.

I double gasketed an oil filter after changing a cam once. YIKES! It was my first cam change and I about chit myself when I fired up the motor and ran it up to 2500 rpm to break in the cam. I was using break in oil that I drove 20 miles to get at like $10 a quart and I spewed about 2.5 quarts out before I realized what was going on. What pipeline are you working on?

Is this when part or all of the old filters gasket is still on the seal area and they put the new filter and gasket on without making sure the surface is cleanedproperly?

You got it.

Been there done that, screw wal-marts "service center". I helped build a nasty blown 347 for a mustang. Guy drove it and broke it in then decided he would take his $5K+ motor to walmart for an oil change. OOPS they forgot about the filter. Guess who payed us to build another 347. WALMART. Ill buy groceries there but no one from wally world is touching any vehicle i own.

So your say that if I buy a junker and produce some receipts for a motor then bring it to walmart til they fek up I can make some free money :p:

its a natural gas line that runs from colorado to oklahoma, i working for a seeding company based in colorado, we go in after the pipeline is done, and all the dirt work is done, and re-seed the ground on CRP land and pastures.
