It is possible that it will kill your motor, but sometime that is that nature of the cure. If it were my motor, that is what I would do (I would toss 1 quart of ATF (dexron mercon) in, run it, change the oil, fill, repeat). The risk you are taking is that everything is so clogged up that you could completely block the oil filter or the oil pump pickup (which is why you only run it for about 30 minutes and then change the oil and filter). It could free everything up and allow your motor to live a longer life. If the problem is actually bearings, rebuilding the bottom end is the only way to fix it. I would try ATF because it is cheap, easy, and has a pretty good chance of helping (and is pretty safe).
?
, then remove oil pump bolts and remove unit and inspect (I am also a noob so i brought it to closest competent shop and they demonstrated the problem and hooked me up with new pump and installed pick up in correct position) stuck it all back together after cleaning pan, new filter and make sure and prime the pump. And if your pump is fine all this is free if you are changing the oil+filter anyways. oops I guess you should put some new gaskets on also. few bucks just some time.
