Never seen one other than for the LS engine swap.

Some engines (like LS engines) have emissions systems that cause oil to pool in the intake, which can cause issues over time. You see them a lot in performance and turbocharged applications. It's not really necessary, but if you want one for extra eye candy or to help keep everything squeaky clean, then go for it.
