Engine in my K5 came out of a truck that had a oil cooler. Instead of purchasing a regular oil filter adapter I just put some pipe plugs in the cooler adapter. Is there anything wrong with doing this?

Reason I ask is oil pressure seems a little low at idle. Wanted to see if that would have an affect on it.

Pretty sure you can't just plug those fittings. I think what's happening now is the oil is going through the bypass and that is why you have low oil pressure.

The oil is supposed to flow from the pump through the filter out to the cooler then return back through the adapter and into the oil galley. Plugging the fittings is like having a plugged filter with a standard style adapter and now the oil can only flow through that bypass which is a HUGE restriction causing the low oil pressure.

Thanks Scott I was hoping you would reply. You have confirmed my thoughts... Will change it out this weekend. You dont think I have done any damage to the engine do you? Pressure was never low enough to cause any valve clatter or knock.

I doubt any damage is done, why not just loop the fittings together with some hose if you don't have a cooler?

Just call around to some of the junk yards and get a cooler and put it in, can't cost that much.

Put a regular adapter on there and solved the problem. 15 psi at idle in gear is a whole lot better than 2 psi !
