I am going to buy an Engine oil cooler for my K30 and am a bit confused about what one to get. Its a BB 454 I am looking at Derale part numbers 15503 and 15502 at Jegs. 15503 says GM app. SB BB (Thermostatic) and 15502 is the same just non thermostatic, 15502 doesn't say GM app. thats what confused me. Do I need or want one with a thermostat or one without. Anyone who can help me with choosing an engine oil cooler would be a great help. Thanks

first off whay do you think you need a oil cooler. ?

and to be sure you want it for the engine ?

why not just grab a factory one and bolt it in and go.

I WOULD NOT buy a thermostatically controlled one (heard too many horror stories of them not working and then exploding either a trans or engine depending on which it is hooked to).

Having an engine oil cooler is a good thing. It is never a bad thing to keep your engine oil as cool as possible. The cooler your engine oil is the cooler the engine temp will be as well.

Thanks for the tip the thermostatic one seemed odd to me. I think I would want all the oil flowing thru the filter all the time. It seems like the oil in the cooler will not circulate until it opens so its a NON thermostatic one that ill be getting. I would like an engine oil cooler because the engine seems to really beat the oil up when wheeling or on hwy trips after doing 60 65 for a bit and getting off or stopping at a red light I lose some oil pressure (not alot) until it cools down for a few minutes. The engine does not run hotter then 190, I really just want it for some extra reassurance. Also if anyone runs an engine oil cooler right now what kind is it? thanks again for the info

I have the factory engine oil cooler on my blazer. I also have an engine oil temp gauge and with the cooler is usually never gets over 180* and usually stays around 160*. If it's a HOT day out and i'm doing extended hiway driving or pulling a hill it climbs to about 190*-200*
