1987 5.7..how do I tell if my oil cooler is factory or aftermaket . .was these a option or standard

need mor info...transmission oil cooler or oil oil cooler? what vehicle it in? is it the original motor? could be a towing option from the factory. motor could have come out of a cop car or a taxi cab or an ambulance. could be a factory option from a diff model/year someone installed. Or it could be aftermarket. After market stuff is usually easy to spot. Its chrome/shiny/or anodized aluminum...the big question is why do you need to know? cause they are all pretty much the same.

Believe all the factory small block oil filter adapters with engine cooling have the in/out fittings offset at about a 45* angle. The hoses that year should look like AC hoses...rubber with aluminum(?) fittings. Most/all aftermarket oil cooler filter adapters I've seen have the fittings side by side. The factory adapter will also have the GM part number cast in it.
