ok so we bolted my 69' block into my 84. and using my 84' exhaust manifoilds, the dipstick on the drivers side of the 69 block hits the manifoild. is there any way to rig this to get the dipstick to fit?

the dip stick was short, it wouldent clear the maniflod because it was hitting on the colector and if you would try to feed it between the manifold and the block it would pinch the line or make a 90 degree bend to the block, i dont think that this will work because the dip stick is on the driver side and the original one on the 84 block was one the passenger side.

Sounds to me like you're going to need one of the Lokar flexible dipsticks. Here is the part number you need, ED-5002 (Flexible Engine Dipstick SB Chevy 1979 & earlier). Just not sure if this will clear a factory exhaust manifold.

i had to put a longer aftermarket one on my impala when i switched engines.stock one would not fit right with the same problem you are having.

no the problem is where the dipstick comes out of the engine. it has about half inchof room. it hits the exhaust colestor that goes to the y-pipe.

this is a manafoild, we think the colector will clear the oil dipstick. heres the manifoild for the van, will it bolt on?

I had the same problem when I did my motor swap. 77 block, 85 manifolds.
I was able to use the dip stick from the 85 and bend it to fit between the block and the manifold, it's a little tricky getting the stick in and out but not so bad.

The manifold will bolt to the heads no problem but the exhaust pipe might not bolt up if the collector isn't in the exact same place as your original one.

i bought one of the cheap chrome ones that is about 3 inches longer than stock.i had to bend where it bolts up on the header bolt but that was no problem.the tube is only about 1/4 inch around and has a bend that keeps it away from the manifold where it comes out of the block.i think i got it in the performance secton at auto zone.
