Well since the motor is at the machine shop might as well fix an annoying oil leak I never got around to. The o-ring that goes on the factory oil filter adapter, what is the gm part number for it? The dealer that is on the way to work, is a buncha idiots who dont like lookin up anything more than 5yrs old. Just having a part number makes life so much easier.

I'm sure I've posted this before, spent more time looking for it than it took to find it in the parts manual. :(

14015353 is listed as the "seal, oil flter adap" for '85-88 C/K/R/V engines 305, 350, 454. From the pic this looks like the o-ring you need.

326100 is the part number for "gasket, oil fltr adap", but it's obvious from the picture at least, that it is the flat paper gasket.

......flat paper gasket......hmmm......dont recall having installed one of those last time.....is it used in conjunction with the o-ring, or is it just 2 different styles of sealing? Cause if its both, I guess I figured out why it leaked

I had mine apart when I rebuilt the motor, and I can't honestly say what was there. GM shows both as being used in the oil cooler setups, but I'm 100% positive one of the motors I took apart (and there were a couple) didn't have a flat paper gasket.

According to the exploded parts diagram of the 5.7L in this same manual, the non-oil cooler adapter does NOT use a paper gasket.

I don't have a block apart that I can look at the sealing surfaces, but the o-ring in any case is the outermost seal/gasket even if there is a paper one. As I recall the paper gasket is there to prevent some pressure from leaking, but if it isn't used on the non-oil cooler setup, not sure why they used it on the oil-cooler adapter. It might be because the oil cooler adapter is aluminum, the (non-oil cooler) bypass valve assembly (what GM calls the piece the filter threads onto) is steel.

hmmm well losing some pressure could be a problem cause my motor had 45psi hot idle and 60 the rest of the time, so excess pressure coulda been pushing past the 1 seal....may have to get both of em this time

You can buy every seal/gasket you need in a small parts gasket kit. IIR tomorrow i'll post a part number for you.

I have the gaskets/o-rings you need in my garage, left over form my recent engine work. Will mail for free if you need. Just let me know.

I know O'Reilly's carries the kit, if you have one in your area. Looks like you've got a few options here...

I thought maybe you were talking to a Victor.:doah: K20's name is obviously Chris... I'm going for another cup of coffee.:o

I'm not sure on the part number ( I did it years ago ) but you want the O-Ring kit. There was NO paper gasket.

Call a good dealership, they should know the part number. The dealer I knew the part number off the top of his head back then because he sold so many of them!!!
