I set out today to fix the temp and oil gauges in my K5. Repaired the temp sending unit wiring, then checked gauge according to the shop manual. Temp gauge checked bad, and oil acted strange. I replaced the temp gauge, and the oil gauge. Temp gauge fixed, oil pressure still acting up. I guess I will put a new sending unit on it tomorrow. The oil pressure reads 60+ on start, and will stay there till I give it a little gas, then it drops to about 45 and then goes back to 60. Did the same with both gauges. Anyone have any ideas?

Same reading with both oil gauges, like in they both read 60 psi at high idle or high rpm runnng and 45 at hot idle at say 800rpm? This would be good and perfectly normal for a healthy engine. If its constantly going up sand down at the same given engine speed then yes the sender is probably screwed up. Take a Digital volt meter and set it on Ohms and with it running take a reading straight off the sender with the wire disconnected. If its screwed up you should see constant varying ohm readings.

Do you have the right sender? I had a 80 pound sender with a 60 pound gauge and the needle was always pinned. GM also had a 100 pound gauge in their med. trucks.
