I went to take a look at my fuel injectors... I found something ugly when I removed that plate that allows you to get to them. There is a rubber hose running from the valve cover to the back of the tbi unit where the injectors are housed. Well there is a bunch of black stuff in there. This isnt carbon.. looks like OIL. I assume this is pretty bad..Its not pooling in there yet.. but there is a decent amount.. any ideas on what to do?

Also.. how does one diagnose whether or not an injector is bad?

Thanks

Blowby... Rings are tired or worse... Mileage?

You can usually tell an injector is troubled by the spray pattern...

You can see the spray pattern from the injectors pretty well if you use a timing light. It will freeze the image making it easier to see the shape. It should have a nice uniform cone shape to it, and no large droplets of fuel.

What problem are you having that makes you suspect the injectors?

Im smelling gas and it seems a bit sluggish. Im gonna replace the Oxygen sensor and fuel filter before I invest in new injectors to see if that helps..

Sounds like a lack of maintenance problem to me . Change or clean your PVC valve and replace the fuel filter.

Look at the conections, if there bad replace them, if they look like **** then replace them, if there 16 years old replace them. Use your head and common sense.

the vacuum line on the rear of the TBI should go to the MAP, not the valve cover....or am I mistaking which line you are talking about?!?!?!?! Or are you talking about the 1/2" line that goes to the air cleaner spacer ring????
