
Then I'd imagine the hole in the gasket through which that stud passes is damaged, allowing the oil to sink down the stud while still being sealed on the outside of the pan. So basically instead of an "O" around the stud, it's a "C"
My best guess anyway. It's only leaking while running because oil is splashing all over the place, when it's off it all sits in the pan below the gasket, so it's not going to leak.

You get the super nice rubber gaskets? Next time ya drop it, check out to see if that hole in the pan around that stud is warbled out and bigger than it should be. It looks to be every bit of 30+ years old![]()
