Oil is leaking from the stud on the pan. Not from the gasket, but from the stud and only when the engine is running.

thoughts? Here is a pic.

Then I'd imagine the hole in the gasket through which that stud passes is damaged, allowing the oil to sink down the stud while still being sealed on the outside of the pan. So basically instead of an "O" around the stud, it's a "C"

My best guess anyway. It's only leaking while running because oil is splashing all over the place, when it's off it all sits in the pan below the gasket, so it's not going to leak.

I'd agree with that.

Get that fixed up. Can't be leakin all over the dunes!!!:D

I could see that. I replaced the gasket when I replaced the rear main last year. Funny I fix one oil leak and another appears. I even spent the extra money to get a new gasket for the pan even though they are "reusable". I'm gonna pull the stud, put a crap load of rtv on a bolt and tighten her down. Should hold for awhile :)

You get the super nice rubber gaskets? Next time ya drop it, check out to see if that hole in the pan around that stud is warbled out and bigger than it should be. It looks to be every bit of 30+ years old :thumb:
