hey guys i am going to be changing my oil pan gasket in the morning and i just had a couple questions to see what you guys think. as far as i can tell 80 inch pounds for the oil pan bolts.

should i use rtv anywhere on the one piece gasket?
how do i change the oil filter adapter gasket?
how come there are 2 sets of gaskets that look the same for the oil filter adapter gasket?
is there a gasket for the dip stick?

sorrry for the newbie questions but i just want to do this right the first time better to ask now then be wondering later, and yes i have searched.
thx

First off, i would use a 1/4" dab of silicone in the four corners and that's it. Yes 80 inch pounds would be fine if you insist on actually torqueing those bolts (80 inch pounds is 6.66 foot pounds). Most people just tighten them with a standard ratchet until they're tight.

Once the oil filter is off there are two bolts that hold the adapter to the block. Once you remove the adapter there should be a large O-ring at the outer edge of the adapter and also a paper gasket inboard near where the bolts go through the adapter. Choose the gasket that fits the adapter the best. Always good to match with the old gasket assuming it's the correct one in there already.

There is no gasket for the dipstick tube.

And if you plan on torquing them to spec, make sure you don't try and use a ft-lb wrench for it. While they may go that low on the scale, they typically aren't reliable.
