Are the 5.7 and 6.2 diesel oil pans the same?

AAAHHHHGGGG! The POS 5.7 shares NOTHING with the 6.2/6.5. Sorry, the 5.7 was a Oldsmobile gas enginer converted to diesel. It gave the 6.2 a BAD name. I even had another Motor Sergeant (NITWIT) try to tell me the 6.2 was a converted gas engine, I almost popped him in the beak. 'Thems fightin' words!

Isn't the glow plug controller on the early 6.2s a carryover from the 5.7?

'Trying to get my blood pressure up, aren't you Jeremy LOL. I don't know about the earlier GP controllers being the same or simliar. I 've heard the early ones are troublesome w/contact points.

Well, you can be sure that *I* would never try to get someone worked up about anything on purpose...

I did read that somewhere, though. Maybe it explains why the early controllers were crap.

I have actually met somebody who thought the 5.7 diesel was a good engine... Said his dad had one and it never gave him any problems in 200K miles.

Well, here's the second person who will tell you the 5.7L diesel wasn't a bad engine. Just had to keep an eye on the oil and coolant, and it would run forever.

My parents had a 1980 Olds 98 with the 5.7L diesel. Ran great, 30+ mpg on the highway, awesome car. My grandparents also bought nothing but Caddies and Oldsmobiles with the diesel. Loved every car.

Too many people treated the 5.7L diesel like a gas engine, using the wrong oil, etc.

Just to set the record straight, "I" never had a problem with the 5.7. My limited experience with the 5.7 includes one Olds Vista wagon(?). Thing would pull HARD, would even smoke 'em on a covered (wooden) bridge. Not bad for early eighties iron.
