I just put an '04 6 liter in my 70 Jimmy. Does anyone know where I can get the coolent temp and oil pressure from?

There is a plug on the rear of the passenger side head that can be removed for a coolant temp sensor. You will probally need to buy or make an adapter to thread your stock sensor in though.

Oil pressure can come from the port just above the oil filter by drilling it out and tapping it for NPT of the correct size for your sending unit.

There must be spots already, GM had to feed the gauges somehow, right?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same as somewhat earlier, combined oil pressure switch/sender (3 wires) and a seperate or maybe combination ECM/temp gauge sender.

This info is from Helms/factory manual. Engine Coolant Temp (ECT) sensor or switch threads into the left head, above and slightly forward of the forward-most exhaust manifold bolt. Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) sensor or switch is just aft of the trailing edge of the intake manifold, into the block; just like all the SBCs.

Is there a trend here? For Aluminum head engines, tap the coolant temp from the head, and for iron head engines, tap from the thermostat hsg?

Thanks for everyones quick response. I think the factory guages are run through the computer and not directly from the sender. I didn't want to screw with any of the computer senders so it looks like the back of the pass. side head and above the oil filter.

Thanks again

So why not pick it up from the ECM? You can get the schematics from here,

You can intercept the signal wire coming from the computer. The signal goes to the computer, and then comes back out into the harness to go to the factory gauge, this is where you will just wire it to a gauge. In my 91 blazer, it had a tbi 350, and the signal worked with the stock gauge, not sure what kind of gauges you have, but hopefully that helps.

The earlier temp gauges use a different resistance than the later model trucks do after everything was standardized. I think the resistances changed in 83ish

The old trucks also use mechanical oil pressure gauges instead of the electric gauges the new ones use, so he is pretty much forced to put a factory sender into the pass side head, and run a tube from the oil pressure port to his gauge.

You could also pb get a tbi gauge from a junk yard and wire it up, or just run it manually, whichever is cheaper I suppose.
