what size is the oil pressure sending unit port? i am wanting to install a mechanical gauge and still have my dummy light so i need to know what size "t" to ask for at the hardware store.

Oil pressure port on a SBC is 1/8" pipe thread.
Just as an FYI, the one on the back of the block is 1/8", the one above the oil filter, if present (some are tapped, some aren't) is typically 1/4", but can be 1/8" too.
Sometimes makes more sense to run things off the one above the oil filter due to space or access concerns.
