What should the ideal pressure be at idle. Sometimes, I drop just below the 30 mark. FYI: About 83,000 original miles

Yer good! that's about normal healthy.

It's been lovely, but I have to scream now.

oh yea, well both my k5's run a LOT higher then that... as in 60 when it's cold, and usually just under 80 when it's warmed up good.

What i've been told as a rule of thumb, is you want 10 psi per 1000 rpm, sooooo.......20psi at 2000 , 30 at 3000 and so on, mine runs about 15-20 at idle when warm and 30-45 at idle when cold, and @ 35 at freeway speed warm and 60 freeway speed cold. so if you have just under 30 at idle warm you're good to go.
