Ok so after a fresh oil change with 5w-30 she started to slightly smoke when im on the throttle hard. my question is if i go with 10w-30 would a thicker oil help? i dont want to use one of those "miracle" bottles, so what do you guys think?

ALSO - can anyone give me the amount and type of oil to put in my D60? its from a 83 k30...

HELP! going to a Lynryd Skynryd concert this weekend at woodstock and want to get these done tomorrow morn...

I don't think you'll see any difference between a 5-30 and 10-30 in the amount of smoking it does. If the motor is that old or out of tune, you could try 20-50 but it's probably only a bandaid.

For gear oil, you just fill it up until it starts leaking out of the fill hole. Not sure what type of oil on a d60.

sorry, forgot the mileage....the motor has 116K on it....and is the best way to drain the diff is to take off the diff cover?

When an engine smokes upon start and clears away or smokes when on the throttle then clears away when you're cruising that is a sign of either bad guides or valve seals. A thicker oil might help slightly but the fact is you have some worn out parts that need fixing.

The D60 uses 90 weight gear oil and if you have a clutch type posi then you'll need friction modifier as well. As Brian said, just fill until the gear oil starts to come out the fill hole.

The ONLY way to drain the diff is to remove the diff cover UNLESS someone has drilled and tapped a drain hole on the bottom of the housing or in the lower portion of the diff cover.

thanks for the info on the diff, but its open...so that means no modifier right? also how much fluid does it usually take?

what weight oil for the engine since im currently running 5w-30? sorry to sound like such a idiot!

The D60 should use almost a gallon of gear oil.

With 116K on the engine i would run 20/50 year round.
