Neutral safety switch broke yesterday morning. Thanks mother nature (-1 degrees). Got an AC Delco replacement but it does not have the mounting ears. Other than that it looks the same. Did they give me the wrong part? Tried putting it in to no avil.. Anybody done this before?

Old and New pics.

I agree, wrong part. Even the spade connector layout is wrong.

hot wire that bad boy!!!
I had to just to get home. I discovered how easy it would be to steal one of these in the process (need to start thinking about anti-theft). They gave me the one for the 83 model, which was wrong, ended up needing one for a 1980.
Should be here tomorrow. Cross your fingers...

Several years ago there was a thread about how easy it was to steal one of these trucks with a hammer. Someone used to make a collar to go around the streering column to make it a lot harder to do a smash and steal.

Yes, you've only got two anti-theft measures built into these trucks...without a key you can't steer, and it won't start.

However, you smash the column on the drivers side opposite of the key, and you defeat both. (it's plastic there) Hotwiring it is easy (12V from the battery to the coil, jumper the starter terminals with a screwdriver), it's the steering part that's more complex, IF you can't break the column right there.

Got the right part!! Vatozone DR419 for a 1980. Bolted right in.:woot: When I was in the store waiting, another guy came in with the same problem. Only he thought it was the starter. Had the starter in hand, and walked out with a $8 switch:doah:
