the problems thus far. A friend of mine is having trouble with her truck

a piece off Yahoo messenger she sent me

01 silverado 5.3 102k miles
Adrina .: no codes, tranny fluid is fine, new battery
Adrina .: all fuses seem to be fine
Adrina .: computer is not kicking codes
Adrina .: computer IS working

it's having trouble taking off from a start. any ideas?? not other problems other than that

Thanks :D

assuming fuel pressure is ok, i would clean the mass air flow, possibly replace it, but this is only a guess couldnt say for sure without seeing the datastream

Browsing forums alot of weird stuff seems to constantly be arising from clogged fuel filter. Just another easy thing to check off.

x2 check out the back pressure on the engine, meaning maybe starting to clogg up the cataylic converter. my truck had the same problem. it just turned 100 k thursday night. now it runs great. better than the factory.

Intake gasket.....just replaced a set Saturday on a friends truck. This is a common problem. In fact, the plastic intakes on these sometimes warp and need replaced too. The nice part is it takes about an hour and the intake is "dry" (meaning no coolant or oil).

I think we need a better def of the the problem. My tranny fluid looked just fine...oddly enough it acted weird and...then I had no tranny:crazy:

I was so confused, I drive like an 85 years old lady, total surprise..

Well in other words it's having trouble accelerating from a stop. :doah:

I ask again, what kind of problem?
Too slow? Too fast? Jerking? hesitating? Revs? Doesn't rev? Engine bogging? Trans slipping? When does it happen? Cold? Hot? All the time? Roughness in engine? Any noises? Anything unusual? Any funny smells or odor?

the other thing is have her pop in somewhere to get a free code check or scan.

a o2 sesonr can cause some of these issues..a bad fuel filter, bad gas, bad fuel pressure regulator or a bad fuel pump can do it too... or even a clogged cat.

if you are going to help her on this I would 1st have the codes checked, from there if nothing I would run the gas low and run thorugh a few gallons of good gas but dont fill the tank!

if thats no luck..run some probably much needed injector cleaner.

then second use a fuel pressure tester "35.00 at any parts store" find out the pressure it should be at. if its real low you found where to sick your blood hound. 1st is a fuel filter..test again.

if still bad you can lean towards the fuel pump or reg. its not to ftent he regulator is the culprit, but it is cheaper than a pump pump is 200-350.00 on these. if it was my truck and I was keeping it I would only put in a factory pump. I hate cheap crappy pumps no matter how nice the warrenty is, when pump goes out on a full tank it sucks!

kind of a needle in a haystack but through the hard way I have learned to investiae 1st and spend money second! I love finally being able to find a problem the right way:D

ask away when you get more info, there are plenty of people on here, some who even work on these things for a living:bow:

Intake gasket(s) leaking can cause a moderate to severe stumble right off of idle. The set that was replaced Saturday were the cause of a moderate off-idle stumble with zero codes thrown.
Either way, a $2 can of carb/choke cleaner should be able to prove yay or nay on that idea pretty quick.
