I think newer Fords have the answer....big nuts.

Well after running The swamps of south Jersey for 20 years I've learned Alot so hear is what I have found. For air cleaner run the intake pipe into the cab clothes drier flex hose works great also if you are running a big cap HEI next time you do a tune up save the big red rubber washer and instale it under your filter nut. On carb trucks make sure the bolt [ very short 3/8] is installed on the front of the engine right in line with the fuel pump push rod. Also on carb trucks the fuel pumps have a breather hole on them either get ride of itand install an electric pump or drill it out so you can install a tube then hook it to a breather hose. Also after next tune up save a spake plug boot you can cut it down [a little off each end] and its a perfect for a dipstick boot large end on dip stick small end on tube. Get rid of all rubber groomets on your engine. I weld up all holes on my valve covers then I drill new ones and weld 5/8 OD pipe in them then using 5/8 heater hose hook them to the air filter on one hose i cut it in half and install my PCV and hook It to the carb use small hose clamps on hoses. Also if your running stock valve covers run cork gaskets get some really good gasket cement glue gasket to valve cover and lightly coat the otherside with grease this is a great way to make sure you vavle covers dont leak rember if oil is leaking out water will get in.Make sure your fill cap is not leaking . If you are using the old 4 bolt small block covers find 8 of the long plates they go between the nut and the cover [junk yard time]. I don't agree with siliconing the dis cap If your are running a big HEI dis these thing are unbelievable they will run under water when you seal it up it doesn't breath and condensation builds and will distroy the ignition [ I went and rescued a friend this past fall for this]. I hope this helps I have lost an engine from all these things exept air fiter issues. A few more things to consider if your running a clutch and your mud has high sand content [like we have] run a three finger clutch the sand gets behind the fingers on the diaphram and does not let it release. And for you Moper guys how might be reading if your running and auto trans your beather is right be hind the converter so as soon as the convertor hits water it "PUMPS" water it to the trans the only way I have seen this fixed is remove the trans epoxe the hole closed then drill the trans adapter. This only seems to be a proplem on the older 3 speeds 999 904 727
