So to start I know everyone loves their ls I love them too but I want a 383 lol. Ok now we have that out of the way I have no idea what kit to get .

this for my crawler so I know I want to build a low compression engine just haveing a hard time finding the right kit any help would be appreciated.

I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly @offgridoffroad runs a 383 in mojo. Matt and Pat are good folks I'm sure they'd have some info to add if they see this. Don't think they're on here much though.

Yes, Matt does have a 383. Might have to page him on IG.

You want a parts kit, a crate engine, et al?

And where's the trail update from last weekend? I know you have stories to tell...
I have the block just a parts kit , I’ll post up later in pacific region .

Why low compression?
So torq can be made at low rpms and can idol at crawl without the engine stalling out I believe is the reason for low compression it in a rock crawler .

You said low and I was thinking 8.5-8:1. 9.5:1 would be normal in my mind. I like higher compression for the response and added punch. Truck sees so few miles that filling up with 93 is no big deal.

Something 9:1 to 9.5:1 is very useful and should prevent ping
That’s what I’m shooting for 9:1 kits I’ve seen are power house ? Eagle , scat there just so many and so many different ones ..

Used Eagle and scat with no issue

maybe consider a Blueprint short block

Have a cam picked? You do want a hydraulic roller if you can budget it

Dood. Blueprint 383 and be done with it. It’ll end up being cheaper by the time your done with parts and machine shop.

Has anyone here at CK5 used Blueprint, I have read some reviews on Blueprint that make me shy of their product.

I also have a 383 in my K5 that I built from scratch and it cost me way more than the blueprint.

I will admit, things I read caused me to shy away from BP

But I did price out building one. The crate engine is not bad, as long as it’s set up the way you need

I already have the block at the machine shop it’s a done deal really .
