This is an Impound that is being sold to cover towing and storage. It is believed to be a 72 gmc suburban. It looks to have some rare options, such as, factory rear AC, buckets console, factory tach, 4-speed. It looks like a 350. It has a high roof with windows and visors. It looks like a vista cruiser roof, and appears to be original. It also has the 3rd seat in the rear. There is some rust and dents on the vehicle. Running condition is unknown. It is located in Kingman, AZ

Ambulance company I worked for had 2 Suburbans that looked identical to that except they were 4X4. They had held on to them because 4x4 Anmbuances were so hard to come by. Had the same top setup and had room for the stretcher and a bench fo the medic to sit on, plus had a :Medicine Cabinet" inside the third door. I wonder if the same company built both?

Here is a picture that is close but not exact;

I know hotels, airlines and other tourist type places often put in special orders for vehicles to be used as shuttles. This is indicative of the type of designs I've seen in the past.

For what it's worth few that I've seen (of any car company) actually rolled the vehicle off their line that way. Usually it is a coach work shop working with a 'prepared' shell.

I'll second the Ambulance notion. First thing I thought of when I saw the pic. Didn't Chevy have a station wagon with the same roof line?

Yah GM has a station wagon with that roof. I would bet it is a conversion.

We had a 68 Olds Vista Cruiser wagon with the same roof set up. I believe Buick also had it on their Sport Wagon. That is one sweet rig.

The aftermarket companies did some neat stuff with cars and trucks back in the day. I can't see the stretched one, but I have seen them before...lots of airports used them as shuttles (whats funny is, I've seen more International Travelalls setup this way than 'Burbs). The regular length ones are more than likely ambulances.

Someone over at 67-72chevy trucks.com put up a picture of a '67 or '68 K20 panel truck that was still in service as an ambulance in Virginia somewhere. There were only a few hundred of them made, the collector guys foam at the mouth over those things.

A few years back somebody put a pic up of a Burb like the one in Thunder's post above. The strange thing was that it was in Hungary or Romania.

throw some 1 tons under it with a diesel and it would make a cool tow rig. sleeping in the back w/ the higher roof and sky lights. alot drier that a truck bed tent
