Help!
I am building a motor, I have the bottom end done, its all stock 350 4 bolt main.
Bought a Comp Cam 270H grind for it
(480" /.480" Duration: 270°/270° RPM Range: 1800-5800)
Found some Vortec heads (062's)
some roller tip rockers 1:5

Now... I want to build these Vortec Heads and I know Comp makes the tools.. but whos done and can help me out, It looks easy enough just want some insider knowledge before I go cutting the Valve guides too short or Push rod holes too big etc... Also! What springs should I get and do I need to remove some material there too?
Thanks Yall!!2017-05-07 11.57.58-1.jpg

With .480 valve lift you are right at the max lift for the stock Vortec springs and retainer to seal clearance. For the 270H, Comp recommends the 981 springs. To start I would assemble a couple valves in a head with the 981 springs and see where the retainer to seal clearance is. Then machine if necessary. With 1.5 rockers, you should not have to open up the pushrod holes at all. I assume you have the correct self-aligning rockers? Several years ago, we built a SB400 for my son using a set of brand new Vortec heads and a Comp XE2624 cam. That cam has a lift of .462" And .480". All that needed done was the 981 springs installed, no machine work necessary. There was sufficient retainer to seal clearance.

Fwiw I have vortecs on my 383: running a 276 comp roller w/502-510 lift. The didnt need to machine anything, used comp beehive springs. Springs were 3x the price of a set of normal ones if I recall right.

I found a set of roller tip rockers at the junkyard, slid them on. Than I realized they weren't self aligning. Slapped the stockers back on and haven't looked back.
