so it should be a simple question right? could an 86 350 block be used if all the upper end parts came from a 99 350?

grandparents threw a rod on their 99 gmc yukon and they are kinda tight on cash, i have the 350 from my 86 k5 that i swapped for a fresher one and im needing to know if i could take that old block and swap all the parts (heads, intake ect ect) onto this motor

the 86 350 was running when pulled just had a head gasket leak so its in good shape and they are just wanting to get it running so they can sell it.

what yall aged mechanics say?

Its not legal, smog wise. But if it passes the sniffer, is anyone going to check the numbers? Probably not. But i DO NOT know if you can bolt all the vortec top end on these. I'm thinking not.....

I swapped dang near everything from a 99 vortec motor to my 74 block. From the heads up that is. However my vehicle does not have to pass emissions, so I would not know what to tell you about that..
