Hi! Please, light me! I know the old name use for 4L80E, it was THM-R2. Now, tell me please, what it was the old name for 4L60?! It's TH700R4?! It's any connection between last two? TH700R4 have also 4 speeds?

LE: If I reverse the names, old with new, please correct me!

1st--THM400-4L80-4L80E

1st--THM700R4-4L60-4L60E

4L80e was never anything else that I know of. I don't think there was ever a 4L80, they've always been electronically controlled. There are similarities with the TH400 but the TH400 is a three speed without OD, the 4L80e is 4 speed with OD.

The 700R-4 became the 4L60, and later the 4L60e when it became electronically controlled.

4= forward speeds
L= Longitudinal mounting. Front drive trannies were "T" as in the 4T65
e= electronically controlled

the TH400 was also referred to as a 3L80, but that wasnt until the other L trans' came into play.

Hi!

Because this topic is for light me, please, excuse me for off-topic, but I need to be light again! :bow:
Because you are native english speakers, please tell me how do you understand the word off-roader?! Do you think is about an off-road car/truck/vehicle, or, is about the guy who drive it?! :confused:

Thank you! Mihai.

not sure about the term you use "light me" please explain.

The term off roader can be used for either an individual or a vehicle.

"That guy is an off roader" meaning the guy likes to use his vehicle(s) for off road use frequently

"My truck is an off roader" meaning the vehicle gets used often for off road use.

As said the TH-700r4 is GENERALLY the same thing as a 4L60. The 4L60 is a revised version that readied the unit to be converted to electronic shift and hence 4L60e came into play.

The TH400 never was revised into a 3L80 version although by todays designations thats what the updated name would be had it ever been revised. The 4L80e IS a TH400 with both electronic revision, electronic shift, and over drive. It was done all in 1 swoop unlike the 700r4.

And by revised I mean the guts of the trans are the same thing the valve body was just reworked physically to allow easier implementing of the electronic servos when they made the big jump.
