Any of you hardcore GM guys know where I can buy some of the black like tape stuff that is on factory wiring harnesses in our trucks? I like it because its not electrical tape and doesnt leave residue, but it sticks to itself and allows you to wrap everything tight...anyone ever purchased any? :dunno: Quick google searches turned up nothing...

I get lucky once in a while!
Good luck!

I bought mine at The Home Depot. It is next to the adhesive type electrical tape. It was expensive compared to regular electrical tape, but it worked well. I redid most of the electrical around the firewall and under the hood of my truck, last summer.

if you ever need any of the eom type split look plastic pieces, the ones that hold the loom to the inner fender or core support, the disco catalog at oreillys has them in it. Just in case you guys are hunting, came across it the other day in multiple sizes.

Im in the process of redoing all the wiring in the engine compartment of my k5. I found wire loom online thats not split. It seems much more durable than the split stuff. But if youre just cleaning things up the split stuff with tape will work. The stuff I used you have to have one end of the wire to shove through the loom.

Cool idea, but incredibly difficult to use.

Split sucks, but works in lots of applications.

Its pretty easy if you're making a new harness like I am. only disadvantage is that its pretty much impossible to add wires in the future.

But for just cleaning things up its not worth the effort of taking all the connectors off one end of every
wire.

Edit : Fyi they make a tool for split loom. Its like half of a funnel that you push into the loom and it spreads the loom open as you slip wire in. Make split loom a lot easier to use.

I've seen a black spiral plastic wire wrap that is similar to the split loom stuff, but you can wind its coils like a spring around existing wires in a harness without having to dissconnect one end..used to sell it at one of the parts stores I worked at...I dont know who made it but it was sold under the "Champ Items" brand name...I've seen it in other stores too,in some other brand like "Belken" maybe?..

Panduit sells it, too. And you're right, any more than a foot or so is a royal PITA.
