i have a 14 bolt from my 1976 and one from my 1997 chevy k2500 i am doing a sas on my 97 which 14 bolt is better to use?? is my 97 chevy 14 bolt a ff or sf?

leve the one under it so its less work. only thing is if you have pop off drums from the front with out pulling the hub unit then you will need a diffrent disk brake kit if you want to go disk in the back. but shane74 at blackwidow makes them. him and i were the ones to make them. i had the axle and he had the shop. i have been running them for over 8-9k miles so far.

other than that thats basicly it.

I think all you will care about is making sure you have a FF under there... if there is a large part of the bearing housing sticking out thru the wheel then it's a FF, if not then its a SF.

use the 97' housing with teh 76' hubs for easy disck brakes if your 97 has a ff

we need pics of said axle

you cant do that. i found out the hard way. gm changed the spindles on the pop off drum style. almost 1" shorter. so nothing will swap over. :doah:  :doah:

Also the newer one's are 11.5 not 10.5 depending on the axle.

11.5" didnt come along till 2000 or something along with the advent of the duramax engine

axles

old one is a bff. but its already built. 4.88 gears detroit locker. chromemoly shafts.

new one is a making noise today. did a truck pull. not good on stock parts. think i am gonna use the old one and just get the disc brake kit

What I am saying is I ordered 5.13's and an Install kit for my HP 60/14 Bolt.

The Stuff was correct for the D60 , but for the 14 bolt not all the parts were correct . The box was labeled GM 89+ 11.5" Maybe the box was mislabeled but that is what my box said that came from Yukon gear.
