Hi all,

I have a 1982 Oldsmobile wagon I need some help with. I know it's not truck related but it's at least GM :thumb: It has the 5.7 diesel in it and when it runs, it runs great. The problem is it doesn't like to run for very long. It will idle for about 45 minutes or if I drive it it will run for about 15. After that amount of time it just turns itself off and I can't figure out why.

Things I know:
Fuel filter is brand new, 0 miles on it
All injectors are getting fuel
No head gasket leaks
All rubber fuel lines are new
It has a water separator, so there is no water in the fuel
None of the return lines are clogged

Could it be that the injection pump is no good any more? I have a spare I can rebuild if that's the case. I've thought it might be the pump all along but it is spotless inside and has the EID update. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Well that is the only thing I can think of, it has the symptoms, and those engines didn't have much of anything else.
To confirm, you can add some ATF or some 10 weight oil in the fuel and see if it does a bit better, or maybe even some 2 stroke oil.
If it helps, your IP needs help.

Sounds like the shut down solenoid in the IP to me...those usually act up once the engine reaches operating temp.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try swapping the solenoid from the other pump I have first and if that doesn't work I'll rebuild the pump.
