On board air upgrade

are you going to use both or just one system?

I have used that compressor for years. specifically the 400p that I took apart and hard mounted in my truck. It has been dead reliably but the bare minimum I would consider for filling tires. Currently It runs my exhaust brake mostly and then provides air for filling tires. I don't think it will keep up with any air tools.

I would recommend adding a dryer to the system somewhere.

you are going to love the system.
I mounted the same set up in my sons k20
mounted inside his tool box, only downfall was i had to source another house to be able to mount the compressor on the side of the tank vs on top.
quick disconnect air chucks vs the press on style, a good 25 foot coil hose an you are golden
Make sure you leave plenty of room to be able to reach the drain valve.

I have an ARB twin, but I've been thinking about adding a dryer. In the winter, on particularly cold days, I have trouble with the pressure switch acting up. I've been wondering if it was due to moisture and freezing up a little.

ya my old one froze in the winter had to heat it up with heat gun to get to work

out of curiostity what kind of dryer would you use?

My system was freezing up bad last year. Moisture would get into the pressure switch and it would never tell the system pressure was low. Its a real pain keeping my truck warm without the exhaust brake. I put the pressure switch closer to the exhaust and ran air brake anti freeze as a band aid.

I'm collecting parts to put in a desiccant based dryer right now. Descant is nice because its recyclable. You just pop it into the oven for a bit to dry it out and put it back into service. Most of it is color changing. Blue when its dry and pink when its wet.

Something like this unit with an easy way to remove the descant

Replacement descant is easy to get when the time comes
