I need to replace the low pressure return fitting on my PS gear box. The box is from an 85 chevrolet and uses the "o" ring. Can I use a piece of hardline for this? I found a piece of 3/8th with "O" ring that comes out into a 90 degree barb that would work great and I am getting it tonight.

yep...

I used the steel fitting from an 80's Olds Cutlass P/S box, when my steel line on the return side of the box rusted out--it was just a short length of tube, with the "O" ring fitting, and barbs on the other end..I used regular power steering return line hose to join it to the pump with hose clamps..
