My '87 V30 has a tbi 350 and I am thinking about swapping to a tbi 454. The 454 is complete from tbi to oil pan and has exhaust manifolds and flex plate. 454 might have come from a van???

What issues might I have with the swap?

Will the 350 computer work with the 454?

Thanks for any help.

The computers are different enough that you will want a donor one for the 454. The harness should be real close or actually the same between the 2.

Main issue I can think of off the top of my head outside of the ECM is the TPS plug. Not a big deal, but IIRC the BBC and SBC always used a different connector.

Also, depending on vintage, the BBC may not use a knock sensor. That's not a big issue as long as the ECM/PROM matches.

Thanks.

Does the computer for the 454 have to come from a square body, or can it be from a newer tbi truck?

Can I just cut the TPS plug off and splice the other style plug on?

Iirc, Painless Wiring has an sbc to bbc pigtail for the plug that's different.

My truck has a TH400.

I think his point is what does the donor have? If it's a 4L80E it's not going to be plug and play, unless you swap trans too.

If the 454 donor is a manual you will most likely be able to get away with running the TH400 behind it, but its nowhere near optimal.

ECM/PCM can be from newer rigs, AFAIK, physically they were all the same size case until 1996. But I've not dealt with the PCM's, which are the ones that control the 4L80E and 4L60E.

If GM used the same style terminals (the metal piece that actually makes contact in the connectors), you'd just need the correct BBC TPS connector shell, then de-pin the SBC TPS connector, and insert the terminals into the BBC shell.
