Ok This may sound a little strange, im sure you are all farmiliar with the burb barn doors on the rear. I want to take one of those hinges and make my tailgate on my 77 blazer a swing out as apposed to the dropdown tailgate style. Has anyone seen this done or have any ideas on the best way to do this?Other option is to double anchor it and tie it in to a swing away tire carrier for added strength. So any ideas would be a big help.

not sure how to do it on the trucks, but the older Oldsmobile station wagons had a dual setup on their tailgates/swing out rear doors...

maybe something to look into, to see exactly how it's setup.

:rolleyes:i thought about this on my 85 k10...seems like a cool mod,..open swing away and tailgate go w/it...then tailgate isn't in the way of the bumper to use as step....or anything heavy loaded in the bed is right there ,..not 2' over there...& would allow use of a receiver mounted vise w/a area to put things etc etc..

i bet theres other uses also..like pto or hydro log splitter..throw split wood up in bed until it needed the tailgate to hold it in and your not having to pick the wood up as high for the 1st 1/2--3/4 bed full..then you have to lift it over tailgate..thus doing a little less work..and again a cool mod..if you ever notice at car shows, if this mod has been done, its open to show it off..both function and cool factor!:dunno::ears::saweet::hack::weld::grind::truck:

wow. i remember that. years ago i used to detail cars and got a kick out of that, the tailgate would go down like a k5 or swing out to the side. pretty neat

There you go. Find one of those that's been totaled up front & cut half of the bed off of it. Hell, try to incorporate the in bed cooler those dudes come with as well! I'm not a real big fan of the ridgeline myself, (can't really consider it a truck with a transverse v6 in it, just my opinion), but I really do like those two features about it.

Oh how I need a welder & to clean out my garage.

Later,
Buddy
