been watching Dante's peak a couple times. the more I watch it, the more I want to build an exact replica of that suburban. I don't know why...but it looks damn cool.

so, I sat here tonight and took a crapload of screenshots from the movie.

anyone know exactly what year it is? from searching online, it seems it might be an 87. how much lift do you think it has? where do I find a front bumper, roof rack, light bar, and rear tire holder like that?

one day I will build it.
 
I would say a 4 inch with 33s.
Guess on year? Umm 84-90 is my guess. I know single and dual.headlights were optional till 90. My dads old 90 has headlights identical to that one.

But trim... me thinks its an 86...just a guess
 
The original movie truck was sold on eBay several years ago....

I saved all the photos from that listing, so if you ever need to see specific details let me know.

I can't believe I have not watched that movie yet. Especially owning a Suburban myself :)

Reminds me though that I still need to install my 2-meter radio.. and put the CB radio in a different spot...

Yeah, my guess would be 4" with 33's as well. I did notice the other day when watching that segment where they cross the river, the rear is a 10 bolt. I was scared for them when they were spinning tire LOL!
 
Great movie. Looks like a con-fer roof rack. Prob a KC light bar. Not sure on the bumper.

If the rig came with a young Linda Hammelton, that'd be cool too...:D
 
The grill is '85-'88. But there's no fender-mounted radio antenna like '87-'88, and the bumper rub strips seem to be more common in '85-'86... so my guess is '85 or '86. I also agree it looks like 4 inch and 33's.
 
damn i remember watching that movie thinking it was the most bad ass thing ever. now i look at it and think "eeww 10 bolts!"

either way, cool sub.
 
The movie? Meh. The 'Burb? Cool. I'd build it too, but...without the snorkel.

There is a yellow Sub in my neighborhood - an '85 or '86 - that I keep eyeballing. You know, just in case there's a FOR SALE sign on it one day.
 
I'm looking for the rack and light bar myself!:waytogo: But most importantly, I'm trying to find the rear tire carrier.........:pimp:
 
If i built it, i would have to upgrade the axles. And maybe stuff in a 6.5l turbo diesel. Then it would make a decent tow rig for my diesel blazer when i finally break it enough so that it's no longer street legal.

My K5 came with one of those round tube, mid-tailgate length tire carriers (but without the gas can attachment). I swapped out the tailgate and didn't feel like re-drilling for the locking mechanism in the new sheetmetal. The side brackets are still on the Blazer, but the carrier is long gone. I don't remember if I sold it or gave it away.
 
The grille guard is a Warn. I have one on my K5, but sadly they do not make them anymore.
