Does anybody know what "K5, K10, K20 or K30 stands for, I mean what does it mean the letter K and the letter C as I've seen on a catalog "LMC".
An answer or opinion will be greatly appreciated...
Mike

Okay so "K" is four wheel drive, but what does the letter K suppose to say like "Kicks Butt" a woman's name like "Katherine" theres gotta be something it was suppose to say in a long word to abreviate as "K" and what about the letter "C" now that this gotta mean 4X2 or is it the abreviation for Cheyenne.
Anybody else got any gestures???? :o

Along the same lines would be;
Dodge's W and the now used V for GM Vans/trucks I believe,
of course the F for ford. What about Mazda Bs. And dodge D, Ford van Es, and J series jeep trucks, and Ps for something and the toyota T.....

GM also used 'R' and 'V' to designate 2WD and 4WD from 88-91.

Well, 10, 20, 30 is 1/2, 3/4, 1 ton ... and K (and V) are 4WD and C (and R) are 2WD.

But you want to know why GM picked those letters? Who knows. They may not have had many left, as the cars come in A, B, X, and F ... vans in P and G, etc etc.

K= conventional cab 4X4
V= front leaf spring suspension
RV= Gen 2 removeable top/vent windows
CK= newer body style 92-up (I think)

Thats what I got from the dealer parts guy. Kept telling him I had a K5 Blazer,
he kept giving me parts to the newer body style (CK). He said they got letters and numbers for everything. Engine/body style/suspension etc. It can get very confusing.

Your dealer parts guy should be ashamed.

73-87 SFA trucks (Reg cab, "3+3", Sub, C+C, K5)

C = 2WD
K = 4WD

88-91 SFA trucks (3+3, Sub, K5)

R = 2WD
V =4WD

88 + up IFS trucks (Reg cab, Ex Cab, etc)

C = 2WD
K = 4WD

Because GM took 3 years to change body styles they had to differentiate between the styles until the SFA 'square body' was phased out.

Okay guys and gals of the letter "K" series blazer, I now understand that nobody knows what the letters' K or C stands for unless you want to call it the K-4x4 or C-4x2, but what is a conventional cab? does all 1969 to 1991 K blazers are conventional cabs, come on people! we gotta dig harder into the history of Chevrolet Blazers or we will never know how it got its name! :mad:

I will look into it today. We have a few techs that have been with GM for 30 plus
years they may know.

Side note.
