I asked the same question yesterday to my buddy who owns his own automotive repair shop here is his answer.

Once a programmer is used, that's it, unless you pull it back off the computer that you put it into. Think of it as a container, once it's empty, you have to refill it.

I wish someone would come out with a cheaper way to do this. $350.00 is a lot of cash to drop on one of those things.
