so im looking at this truck. its a ways from me, but i have been talkin to the guy about it. he seems pretty up-front. also he seems to know wtf he is talking about. i originallly questioned the c&c part. but he replied " it has a narrow rear axle...14bolt... not that dana whatever like a regular dually".
so he isnt a tard like most that i have been dealing with lately.

the truck is a 91' v30 cab and chassis. he says there are "factory fish plates where the wheelbase was extended". is this true? i have see alot of c&c trucks, even owned one, but they where always 2wd. i have never witnessed this on those. but im thinking thats because they where 2wd.

the truck ws owned by bp oil. hence the green. its not forrest service green. it had a box on the back before the current owner installed the flat bed and it had an auxillary heater mounted where the rear seat would be, and there are holes in the rear of the cab where the heater hoses went to the box. he says he got the truck at about 40k miles. it currently has 96k. the original trans went out at about 60k. and he replaced it at a dealer with a gm reman unit that had been updated to 95' specs. ( i belive this as most 91-93 4l80e trannies i have seen went out early due to some issues that where later corrected by gm).

the original engine comes with the truck. but has a flat cam. the current engine is a L98 camaro model with the original tbi unit on it.

the rear axle is on its 3rd gov-loc. he said he couldnt find a used 4.56 carrier that didnt have it. also the truck was ordered without the rear seat, and there where rubber plugs where the bolts would go. so the current rear seat is blue, and the interior is tan. it needs a radiator and batterys. its been sitting for 2 years. but i think its a good deal.

i guess this is kinda long for just one question.

here is the truck in question

I'm running a C&C frame under my truck and had it stripped to the frame... no fish plate on mine (continuous one piece frame rails). Frame was from an 86 dump truck.

Sounds like there may have been a frame issue at one point...

x2 on my c&c 135" wheel base std cab model.

friend has a 16%ish wheel base std cab with loooong flat bed. 2wd truck. no cut n splice also.

did they even make a crew cab c&c in a 4x4? i cant remember ever seeing that combo before. or maybe its some special order deal?

also , is there more than one c&c wheelbase? even in standard cab?

edit- i have seen a c&c crew 4x4 before. firetrucks. those brush trucks they use for forest fires. there are quite a few around here with water tanks and whatnot on them. now i just need to find one and inspect the frame rails.....

according to this, c&c 4x4 crew is the same 164" wheelbase as standard cab.

Man, be carefull. If the truck was owned by BP it might explode and leak oil all over the fricken place. Don't even believe any of the "maintenace" records he may have...:haha::haha::haha:

GM never made a crew cab c&c with that much wheelbase! The measurement from the back of the cab to the center of the axle on a crew cab pickup box truck is 56", the cab to axle on a crew c&c is 60", the cab to axle on a regular cab "long wheelbase c&c is 84". GM never made a crew cab c&c with an 84" Cab to axle measurement. I have a 91 dealer brochure.

They did make 4x4 C&C crew cabs.
As for the fish plates, if the wheelbase is more than 164" it could have been an aftermarket conversion, or even a dealer conversion, but GM never used fish plates to extend, they would build a long frame, but never to my knowledge offer longer than 164" for the CC.

I have seen several cab and chassis '77-'91 4x4's with approximately 3 foot longer beds. There is a mid 80's crew cab fire truck around here with a 12 foot bed. Three more feet in wheelbase. 1 foot behind axle.
When I first saw it I figured it had the frame extended, but I looked at it very close and could not find any spliced places. I am sure it came that away from the factory. Approximately 200.5" wheelbase.

i knew you would chime in here eventually

all the searching i have done says you are right. 164" in the brochure i have found while searching seems to be the longest. no matter which cab is on the truck.

but as rksjd8420 points out, they do exist. i have seen the brush trucks with a 12' ish bed. so the wheelbase would have to be longer than 164".

so i guess the question is, who made them and how was it done. maybe BP was having the company who installed the van body extend them. i dont know. but i guess now i just need to look at it and decide if im ok with it or not.
