Finally landed me a set of tons, and for only $900:woot:, came out of a decommissioned '81 crew cab long bed truck, not sure on the gearing, both diffs are open, however no RPO codes and no VIN?? The rancher was reluctant on parting with it, and it was in his possession before it was stripped, so I assume it wasn't stolen (I suspect that kind of stuff doesn't happen a lot up here, especially in a rural town 50 miles north of I-80).

Anyways, now the for the "fun" rebuild procedure:rolleyes:

Nice! too bad it looks like they torched the shock mounts off!

Looks more like the infamous GM issue with the shock mounts breaking. Mine broke in that same area about 4 times already.

Yep, looks just like my left front.
I haven't fixed it yet, but really don't notice any difference.;)

The driver's shock mount on the D60 was cracked at the 90 degree where the ear extends pass the boxed part of the mount, all the other mounts were in pristine condition. Im kinda kicking myself in the rear for torching them all off :doah:, but I figured I would build new ones out of 1/4" plate steel if I couldn't find aftermarket ones, also I had a 2hr time frame to uninstall both axles and load them up before sundown, not including the 4hrs of total driving time. These damn things are retarded heavy.

fyi check the 60 cover bolt for the id tag. might show gear ratio. if not thay look real clean. wire brush down the front of the tube on the 60 and find the bom. then decode it here. http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/60_front/D60 Front Shafts.html

but as always pop both covers and at least check insides and change gear oil. then you know 100%

Very informative link SweetK30, in fact I bookmarked it:thumb:. Little disappointing info; the ID tag on the 60 shows 3.73s, and I popped off the rear diff cover to find these #s on the ring gear "11 41 8 75" 41/11=3.7272repeat so 3.73s. The truck only had ~156k and the gears showed it, aside from a teeny bit of surface rust on the outer edge of the ring gear where it wasn't submerged, they look great, even the diff fluid is still thin and grey. These aren't going under my truck any time soon though, still need to rebuild the axles, clean and paint, order Xover steering components, 14b disc kit, HD diff covers and now....some really expensive gears:frown1:

But at least I now have the housings and shafts:D
