I just bought a stock 79 that is in very good shape and I have some one tons
off of a 81 dullie truck . My question is if anyone runs these in stock length or how they will work being that wide?

If not how hard would it be to narrow them so they will work.

I have a grand total of $0 dollars in them d60ff front and a 70hd rear with 4.10"s.

This will still be street driven probably like 50/50 on off road.

blazer has a 350, sm465, and np205

thanks

The length of the axle is fine. You will have to change the dually hubs to single wheel hubs.

what r my options for hubs buy new or is there some way to modify the stock ones?

You can also run unmodified Hummer wheels to avoid swapping the hubs. they have something like 7" of backspacing, which makes them about perfect.

A number of guys have solved the problem that way....in fact, sometimes you can find people who will trade you single wheel hubs for your duals, just so that they don't have to pay to re-center their Hummer wheels.

You could be cool and run duals in the back, that would be sweet. OOOOOOOOOOhh, Redneck

H1 rims are the easiest solution if you don't want to run a new tread pattern. A lot of them are not being produce in 16.5. If you are ok with one of the common old style M/Ts or something from Interco you're fine.

If you want aluminium rims and a newer tread pattern then Hutchinson can hook you up. But that negates the cheep part. They are around $400 each.

The final, and almost as cheep as the first, option is to trade someone for some SRW bearing hubs up front and pick a FF14B for the rear.

I am in the process of doing option #1. One day, once everything else is done, I'd like to do option #2.

where is the best place to trade someone my hubs dullie hubs?

If it where me I would run factory H1 Beadlocks. This will put your track width the same as a factory SRW plus you will have true dual beadlocks. If you convert your front to SRW then you still have the ubber wide Dana 70 in the rear.

As was stated H1s on the the axles the way they sit is the easiest and cheapest.

As for SRW hubs post up in the wanted section that you wanna trade DRW for SRW Dana 60 hubs.

Both of my axles are completly torn down and stripped of all brackets

I am wondering how hard would it be to just cut down the axle tube and leave the hubs alone
This way I can run a regular 15 inch wheel with no clearance issues.

I am also planing a disc brake conv. for the rear.

I am not worried about cutting and welding this is no problem just what to do about axle shafts being a new length?

Also I would like to run new tread pattern so no hummer rims.

Thanks

 so does this sound like a good route? running 15" rims I can get cheaper tires and any tread.
All I have to do after shortening the axle tube is get the shafts resplined by (superior)? not sure if they will do that or what it costs?

Go spend the $100 or so and pick up a used SRW 14bff. That my friend, would be the easiest and cheapest.

I have a 14bff but I thought that the 70 hd was a stronger better axle?

anymore a 15" tire is not as common as a 16". a 14bolt and some single wheel hubs for the 60 are in your future. retubing axles and resplining shafts is a big $$$$ undertaking. a 14 bolt will bolt in if its from a 3/4 ton and disc brake kits are cheap. spare parts galore at any junkyard in the world.

sometimes its cool to be different, this isn't one of those times. take the easy way out. it will cost less and be just as effective.

So if I put on the new standard width hubs I need to get standard width outer stubs ( might as well get 35 splines) because they are like 1" shorter is that correct.

Thanks for the responses

I'm glad I found this website so I don't do a bunch of stupid stuff and regret it later :haha:

how far do the tires stick out on a standard width d60 with whatever back spacing anyone got pics.

I have looked at alot of pics but I don't know what the backspacing is or the axle widths

Stubs are the same. Just slap the SRW bearing hubs on and you're set.

The Ford stubs are shorter than the GM, though.
