I recently found myself against a tree while going up a hill and i was able to see my tires spin and i noticed that in 4H and 4L only the driver rear tire spun and in 2h the front passenger only spun. Why is only one tire working in 4 wheel-drive. Aren't all four wheels supposed to work in four wheel drive?

Thanks,
Steve

Not sure I understand. In 2H, your front tires should not be spinning

I dont understand it either. but it was spinning. what i'm more concerned with is, only one tire working in 4 wheel

:dunno: sounds very strange, what t-case do you have?

i believe that is a 241 t-case, (the only one i haven't owned) but as far as the spinning one wheel i am not sure. in 4wd even with open diff's you should be powering at least 1 front and 1 rear. hold tight, someone else will chime in with a possible answer.

Should be either and NP208 or NP241, both very similar. Do you have manual locking hubs?

If your front tire is the only tire spinning when in 2H (rear wheel drive) something is definitely FUBARED....I just don`t see how its possible...you should have at least one wheel one either axle spinning when in 4H or L (assuming each axle is open)

Maybe your rangebox pointer on the floor is not accurate? You might think you're in 4HI (or 4LO) when in fact the transfercase is actually in 2HI?

Checking 4LO should be the easiest. The truck would move a lot slower than normal, so just try each shifter position until you find the one that slows the truck down dramatically. Check the indicator and confirm that it's ACTUALLY pointing at 4LO on the indicator.

A single tire spinning per axle is normal behavior for a stock truck. Open differentials will always allow all the power to transfer to the side with the least amount of traction. (It's pretty much the opposite of what you'd actually WANT to have happen, but it makes the truck a lot more predicatable and safe for 99% of drivers)

:usaflag:

Sounds like the auto hubs are not working properly...
